Abruzzo Region: cyclotourism enhances the beauty of places
Abruzzo turns slow tourism into a growth driver and deploys new tools to promote the area
Cyclotourism as the core tool for promoting the beautiful Abruzzo region, which still has great growth potential in terms of appeal. And cyclotourism is also at the heart of the “Abruzzo Bike Friendly” initiative, the network created by the Region with the intention of promoting a network of accommodation facilities and complementary services capable of fostering the development and qualification of the cyclotourism offer.
This is the fulcrum of an articulated European project funded by the Interreg Italy-Croatia Programme, which has involved all the Adriatic coastal territories of the two countries in a long series of activities: which will officially draw to a close at the end of June, but will then have to generate their results for much longer, in the logic of a constant also economic growth of the regions involved.
In particular, participation in the project has been an opportunity for the Abruzzo Region to promote its regional heritage as part of a common Adriatic heritage, also by offering specialised training to tourist operators to respond to the need to become truly “green”.
“The Interreg Italy Croatia programme - explains the Regional Councillor for Tourism, Daniele D’Amario - addresses one of the strategic points of Abruzzo’s tourism promotion: slow and experiential tourism. This is a topic where we have invested financial resources with conviction and developed ideas for tourism growth. We believe that this growth can only be conceived if we create the conditions for generating tourist services able to meet the demand coming from tourists. This requires the involvement of all the actors operating in the area, and the Interreg programme project has done this successfully and with results”.
After all, the regional territory - and in particular the coast, which is the real project protagonist - really has a lot to offer. The recent launch stage of the Giro d’Italia showed the world the beauty and functionality of the cycle path built along the picturesque Costa dei Trabocchi, which can be the main driving force for future promotion. The latest promotional activities of the project will be developed along this very line: a press tour dedicated to journalists and operators in the sector and the positioning of ad hoc signage to improve the accessibility of the routes in terms of information, thanks to QR codes that allow GPS maps to be downloaded as well as all the potential offered by the territory to be enjoyed in the easiest way.
